Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP, Dr Dan Poulter is a leading member of the OFFSET group of MPs who are working together to oppose National Grid’s East Anglia GREEN pylon project, and pushing for alternatives from the march of pylons across our precious Suffolk landscape.
Many residents have met with and written to Dr Poulter and are concerned at the loss of landscape, the impact on wildlife and the proximity of the proposed pylons to their properties. Dr Poulter shares these concerns and is also concerned about a lack of adequate consultation with the Ministry of Defence in relation to Wattisham Air Base.
Local residents and the OFFSET group of MPs feel that the National Grid have not thoroughly explored alternatives to the new pylon plans, such as offshore and underground solutions. Working as part of OFFSET, Dr Poulter has pressed for a full investigation of these alternatives and as a result, National Grid has now announced an independent review of all the options.
Dr Poulter commented, “Working together with my fellow East Anglian colleagues, we have been calling for offshore options to be fully explored. I welcome this independent review and it is important that National Grid now come forward with open and transparent information so that we are all aware of the onshore and offshore options, rather than the currently proposed East Anglian Green corridor.”
