Thank you for contacting me regarding the Domestic Premises (Energy Performance) Bill.
I have been very supportive of this Bill and have indeed sponsored the Bill in its early stages in Parliament. The core aim of the Bill, to deal with fuel poverty and to give the Secretary of State a duty to achieve the Government’s commitment to ensure that all fuel poor homes achieve Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) band C by 2030 is very positive. This is particularly interesting for Suffolk as 61% of properties in Mid Suffolk are off the main gas grid which means they have to usually rely on higher carbon alternatives, thus leading to lower EPC ratings.
Therefore, should this Bill be successful, it will be positive to stipulate that the Government must take action to improve the EPC ratings of these houses. I will continue to pay close attention to this Bill and support its progress through the Commons.
