Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP, Dr Dan Poulter, was pleased to welcome a group of politics students from Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham during their visit to Parliament.
Following a tour of the Houses of Parliament, Dr Poulter was pleased to speak with students about his role as a constituency MP in Suffolk, but also his role in Westminster, and how he has helped to deliver more money for schools across his Central Suffolk and North Ipswich constituency.
The students were given an opportunity to ask questions of their MP whilst in Westminster, and Dr Poulter was impressed with their enthusiasm and engagement with current politics. Students were concerned with the environmental impact of Sizewell C and the potential dangers of nuclear power. Dr Poulter told them that while he fully appreciated the risks involved and felt that more needed to be done to mitigate against the impact during construction, he also reminded students of the urgent need to find efficient and storable energy sources. Students also asked about proposed changes to loan provisions in higher education.
Speaking about the visit, Dr Poulter said "It's always gratifying to see our outstanding students and young adults here in Suffolk so engaged with politics and wider current affairs, especially putting forward such carefully considered and well-informed questions. Thomas Mills High School always offers me an exceptionally warm welcome, so I was pleased to welcome them during their visit to Parliament today. It was abundantly clear that the students had once again very carefully considered their views in preparing their challenging questions."
“Visits such as these really help to strengthen the link between my work as an MP locally here in Suffolk and my work in Parliament, but they are especially important in inspiring our next generation of voters and decision makers.”
