Dr Poulter is encouraging residents to ensure they check their eligibility and apply for financial support from the Government to help with their energy costs.
Although most households in England, Scotland and Wales get a £400 discount on their energy bills automatically, there are some exclusions from automatic payments, where applications must be made.
Such exclusions include those who pay for energy through a landlord, housing manager or site owner and may live in a park home, houseboat or off the electricity grid. In some cases, those who use alternative fuels may also have been omitted. These are fuels such as liquid petroleum gas and solid fuels and are eligible for a £200 payment.
Dr Poulter is committed to ensuring that nobody miss out on energy support and is encouraging residents to check their eligibility.
For the £200 Alternative Fuels Support, eligible homes fall into the following categories in which you live:
- in a residential park home
- on a boat on a permanent residential mooring
- on a permanent Gypsy and Traveller site
- as part of a heat network without an electricity meter
- in social or private rented accommodation which has a business energy connection or a communal electricity supply
- off the mains electricity or gas grid.
For the £400 Energy Bill Support, eligibility includes all of the above, plus you live:
- in a care home or assisted living facility and you pay for some or all of your care (directly or through loss of pension or other benefits)
- in a separate domestic home within a non-domestic property (such as a farmhouse or a flat above a shop).
Please use these links to check your eligibility and apply, for the £400 Energy Bill Support and the £200 Alternative Fuels Support.
Those constituents who do not fall into the above categories are unlikely to be eligible and should have received their payments automatically. If anyone in a domestic, privately metered setting is unsure or believes they have not received their payment, they should contact their energy supplier.
