Dan was pleased to visit Otley College, where he met with college Principal Philip Winfield and Head of Student Services Greer Hill, before being given a tour of the campus followed by a question and answer session with a group of students. Otley College specialises in further and higher education courses in animal care, horticulture and countryside management, and in recent years has expanded by adding a new equine centre, state of the art construction centre, business centre and learning resource centre for learners taking vocational courses.
Dan spoke with the Principal about the proposed full merger of Otley College with Easton College in Norfolk, the Coalition Government’s investment in vocational training and Apprenticeships, along with careers advice services for young people in Suffolk. After visiting the new Learning Resource Centre, Dan then answered questions from students on a range of topics, ranging from the planned new high speed rail project, to the problems within the Eurozone and the Government’s deficit reduction programme.
We are lucky to have a resource like Otley College in Suffolk, which is playing an essential role in providing real training opportunities for young people, supporting our businesses and boosting the local economy. Dan would like to thank the staff and students for welcoming him to the college and very much looks forward to visiting again soon.
