Today, local MP, Dr Dan Poulter was pleased to drop in and support the North West Ipswich Friday Friends Café for people with dementia and their carers.
Dr Dan very much enjoyed meeting with so many of the regular visitors, all enjoying a reminiscence session, before sitting down to a healthy, hot lunch prepared baked by the hardworking and dedicated team of volunteers.
Hosted in the Whitehouse Baptist Church, the Friday Friends Café is a friendly community cafe for people living with dementia and their carers. It is held in the Whitehouse Baptist Church, Waterford Road, Ipswich IP1 5NW, each Friday from 10.30am to 2.00pm. The morning session starts with tea, coffee and and biscuits, followed by an activity, such as talks from speakers, games, singing and music groups and guided reminiscence therapy sessions. After the activity session, a two course homemade lunch is served and customers and volunteers all eat together to chat and socialise.
Organised by ActivLives, this outstanding community café is a real lifeline for local residents, and particularly so for those with dementia and their carers. There’s the opportunity to come together with like-minded people and there’s a helpful range of support information available if required.
