Member of Parliament for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, Dr Dan Poulter was today delighted to officially open the new Multi Use Games Area, Wheeled Sports Area and outside table tennis area at Mendlesham Playing Fields.
Already host to Mendlesham United Football Club, the new MUGA at Mendlesham Playing Fields includes lighting for five a side football, basketball and competitive netball. As well as being available for the local community to enjoy, it will also be available for private hire.
The WSA has been hugely successful and incredibly popular with local families, with children and young people enjoying their bikes, scooters and skate boards. The outside table tennis area is also now open for use. Overall, this exciting new games and wheeled sports area are cost in the region of £200,000. Grant funding has come from Mid Suffolk District Council, including developer contribution grants, Suffolk County Council and Ping! In the Community, who assisted with the table tennis area.
Whilst the project has been hampered with Covid delays, it has been a real community effort with many volunteers pulling together to help bring the project to fruition.
Dr Dan Poulter said “I was delighted to open the new Multi Use Games Area, Wheeled Sports Area and new outside table tennis area in Mendlesham this afternoon. It was clear to see that this was a huge community effort and I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in bringing this fantastic project to fruition. Mendlesham is a thriving community and thanks to developer contributions generated by the Station Fields, this state of the art new leisure area will serve all members of the community for many years to come. The sunny weather brought everyone out today and it was great to see so many young families enjoying the new play area.
